A troll in central...nowhere

I actually spent a couple hours on this one(mostly the shading of the upper lip). Upon second review, he reminded me of a mix between Shrek and Scooby Doo....maybe its just me. Anyways, it's supposed to be a troll. I was just practicing the lighting and the sub-surface scattering on his ears mainly.

The newest sketch, I think I might try to do one everyday like Mel Milton.

new stuff

It's been a while, I started my design job at Grand Canyon University, so now I have to plan time to sketch more, which is good and bad. Here are some new images just trying different things.

Just a value sketch based off of Claudio Sanchez.

Death Metal Guy

This is the latest painting I did, based off a sketch I did randomly one day. It started out as just some guy standing there, but that was lame of course so I added a guitar and changed the pose a little. Still not sure if the silhouette is crap or not but I think you would get the idea if it were all shadow.

How to trian your Stitch?

Ok, so the new Dreamworks animation teaser trailer came out for "How to train your dragon".
One of the directors (Chris Sanders) used to work for Disney is best known for directing Lilo and Stitch, who by happened to be the voice of the little alien as well. I would just like to point out the influence that I saw from the teaser... it might just be a coincidence BUT, see for your self.

Hmmmmm....

Call me Crazy....

same big eyes, stubby arms, fat neck, big teeth bearing grin?

Oh well,

I still have mixed feelings about this movie, although the story does seem lame. We shall see.

For the kiddies

A Dragon Hunt...

I recently took a trip to visit some family in Utah and decided to take advantage of some of my eager nieces and nephews. We took a trip to the mountains and I came up with a quick idea to film a short story. It made for good compositing practice as well. Some parts did end up a little rushed but I'm ok with the outcome.

2 in a day

I was able to pump out this image as well in the same day as this blob one. Wish I could do that everyday.

Blaaaaaaooooobb

Oh boy, I love Jello!

This was really just a test of translucent style painting, I wanted to put little bubbles inside, but wasn't willing to spend the time putting them inside.

Monkey Slam!

I recently watched Nacho Libre and found a flash tower defense game that was pretty fun. This is the result of my brain afterwards.

I'm dead

A friend of mine, Kyle, and I have started doing some compositing tests for a project we will be shooting in November and here are a couple of them.

#1: A shot in the face

#2: A crazy anomaly

Farmers' Mums

So here are the thumbnails to a new piece I am working on. The next step will be to shoot some video reference to help the performance. The audio comes from the movie "Hot Fuzz".
The Idea I got was to have a guy playing a video game, cleary annoyed by the two guys harassing him. In the film they are in a bar and there are some games in the background, and that's how I got the Idea.

What is going on?

OK, so I need to start working on this thing again. I have lots of time on my hands as of late, getting laid off will do that to you, but it has been nice to have time to work on what I want to work on.

So a buddy from work and some other friends from school have started production on a short film called "A Night In" you can check out the progress at http://www.anightinblog.blogspot.com. This hopefully will be a nice enough portfolio piece to get some attention around here.

I have taken the liberty to start sketching and painting a little more in Photoshop, I really have to strive to get the images in my head to translate in any format and practice makes perfect so here was something I started with

.

it doesn't really make sense but it is a start right?

I also had time to enter the 11SecondClub this month and got a whopping 4.31 star score, which is up a star from last time, so I guess that shows progress. The other top animations were nothing short of amazing, so I have to practice a LOT harder if I want to win. Here it is

The Goings on

So, since the last post, I finally graduated and now have a Bachelors of Art in Animation. My website got me a job at ExodusWeb.com where I started working 1 week before graduating. I am working on modeling and rigging 3D characters for now, hoping to start animating when some other stuff gets done. It's a great start and I have been learning tons. I might post some stuff I've done so far in the future. I'm moving to a house in Mesa in the next month so it might be a while. As for now it's back to learning more complicated rigging techniuqes.
